Overview:

StartLogic was originally started as a reseller for IPower in 2003 and has since expanded to having its own data center as well as using the data center owned by IPower. Though they share one datacenter, they have grown to have over 50,000 customers as well as being one of only a number of hosting providers to offer Windows hosting. If you are looking for a good, inexpensive virtual server, we suggest that you take a look at their Virtual Server since its price is only $14.95 a month.

The technical support offered by StartLogic can be considered to be among the best. They now offer 24/7 technical support by phone as well as e-mail support and an online knowledgebase.

StartLogic now offers a "100% Money Back No Questions Asked' guarantee." This guarantee does not include set-up fees, domain name fees, reseller accounts, virtual accounts, dedicated servers, overages and/or professional services but it much better than what is offered by most customers.

Overall Value:

The standard hosting price for top hosting providers is between $6 and $8 which StartLogic falls into and with their special deals often well below. Unfortunately, when you compare their offerings, to other hosting providers, they miss on certain options. Many providers will at least let you pay extra for a dedicated IP without an SSL certificate or pay for SSH but we have been unable to do so. Also, they charge a "one-time processing fee" of $10 for adding sub-domains which are often included for free by most providers.

Reliability:

StartLogic did something very smart when they decided to open their new datacenter, they located it in Arizona. Their datacenter is free of many of the natural disasters that seem to be plaguing parts of the United States lately. So far, their uptime record is one to be very proud of, while some providers are having trouble, they seem to be having good luck fending off today's common problems.

Ease of Administration:

While many companies today use cPanel, StartLogic uses vDeck which is a web-based administration panel developed and spun off as an independent product by the people at IPower. vDeck has pretty much the same functionality as cPanel providing users the ability to manage e-mail accounts, files, and databases. It has a built in web-base design utility and a script installer that is similar to Fantastico. There are also built in e-commerce tools.

Known Problems:

Users who wish to have access via SSH will not be able to purchase access unless they upgrade to a Virtual Server.
