Overview:

MidPhase is relatively new hosting company, since is founded in only 2002, but do not let that factor into what you think about them. MidPhase who co-locates it's servers in he Equinix datacenter facilities has been growing as great speeds. So far they have acquired Trillhost and Anhost in their expansion process.

MidPhase is not the first company to offer unmetered bandwidth but the first to offer it at such a low price. True unmetered bandwidth where you never have to worry about going over your monthly data transfer allotment is not something to laugh at and MidPhase claims to be offering that level of service. So far we have only found two restrictions regarding unmetered bandwidth, image and download sites. From our research, we have found that MidPhase will not restrict other the bandwidth of other sites. Restricted sites are currently capped at 60 GB and 75 GB for their Mega and Pro-Phase plans respectively.

We recommend MidPhase for high bandwidth sites such as web forums.

Overall Value:

Price's at MidPhase are relatively on par with their competitors. Their unmetered bandwidth is unique to them among the top hosting companies and a factor that makes it difficult to compare their prices to other companies. Since comparing their unmetered bandwidth plan is near impossible, we must compare what bandwidth they give if a customer is restricted. Looking at the relatively low bandwidth for restricted sites but same pricing, we feel that their pricing could use a little work.

Reliability:

We have tested shared Linux hosting plans and a Virtual Private Server, all of which have had very good uptime. Furthermore, we found that we could sign up for a mailing list with direct announcements, problems, etc. about the server our account was hosted on.

Ease of Administration:

The administrators at MidPhase decided to take cPanel and tweak it until they were happy. When you log in, the administrative panel you will notice that it does not even look like cPanel. Basically what they have done is tried to brand it and make it look like something of their own. Unfortunately, when they did that, they removed some of the cPanel 10 features or made them pay features. The folks at MidPhase did add a feature called "SimpleSite Wizard" where users can create simple webpages without knowing HTML at all.

Known Problems:

Sites that are mainly graphics and imaging or download sites should look for a different host. Bandwidth is capped at 60 GB and 75 GB for their Mega and Pro-Phase plans respectively for these types of sites.
