Started in 2002, HostGator has been offering high quality hosting solutions to customers with a variety of options. Over the past years their 24/7/365 tech support with available online knowledgebase has given customers the necessary support options that some hosting companies might be envious of. HostGator prides itself on giving its customer the best hosting packages and service they can.

Overall Value:

The hosting package offered by HostGator are relatively comparable to those offered by most other hosting companies. The low price package 'Hatchling' falls short of many options that some people might want but if you move up to their 'Baby' or 'Swamp' plans you will find that they offer what you need including Unlimited domains. The only service not provided in any of their plans is SSH.

Reliability:

HostGator does not own its own datacenter but rather utilizes space at The Planet which is a 35,000 square foot highly secure, tier one, high quality datacenter based in Dallas, Texas. The only problem though is that since they do not own their own datacenter, unplanned reboots that require assistance can be delayed while they wait for administrators from The Planet.

Ease of Administration:

HostGator provides it customers with cPanel 10 which has become the standard in web-based hosting administration. They also provide an online knowledgebase to help support customers with common questions. Commonly used scripts and programs are also can be installed using Fantastico. Support is also available by using flash videos.

Known Problems:

HostGator does not offer SSH and does not own its datacenter.
