Overview:
Globat is one of the original full-featured low-cost hosting companies. It was started in 2001 after the CEO decided to answer some of the problems of the dot com bust, unhappy customers. Since then they have continued to grow and expand their customer base. Unfortunately they have recently been making a large push to expand their customer base which as resulted in a decline in their overall customer service quality. Should they start to concentrate on their current customers more, they would easily regain their position as a more highly rated host.
Overall Value:
The pricing structure and available plans at Globat are much like many of those offered by today's top web hosting providers. They often have special deals on their plans further reducing their prices. Though their pricing is good, we felt that their plans do not compare to others in the same category. Many companies today offer the ability to host multiple domains at no extra charge (they charge $12 per domain per year) as well as offer dedicated IP or SSH as an option which they do not.
Reliability:
The servers at Globat are generally very reliable; however some customers have informed us of problems with their servers. Servers are housed in a fully redundant, secure, and state-of-the-art datacenter in Los Angeles.
Customer Support:
Globat provides its customers with a vast array of support options. There website offers an extensive online knowledgebase as well as an online support chat service. Globat does offer support via e-mail but feedback from current customers has told us not to rely on it.
Ease of Administration:
Some hosting companies choose not to pay the extra cost for software such as cPanel or Plesk while passing the savings onto their customers which is what Globat has chosen to do. Their software has many of the web-administration features as their competitors but does take a little time to get used to.
Known Problems:
Globat currently is having some problems with customer service.
